چکیده

This paper presents an optimization mechanism to increase the performance of cloud services that transfer groups of deduplicated virtual machine (VM) images. This is necessary as the naive data transfer approach for groups of deduplicated VM images is extremely inefficient as it generates highly random disk access pattern. The optimization mechanism presented significantly improves the VM image transfer performance through intelligent buffering, blocklevel transfer scheduling, and data indexing to increase disk access sequentiality.

Communication-Aware Traffic Stream Optimization for Virtual Machine Placement in Cloud Datacenters with VL2 Topology

By pervasiveness of cloud computing, a colossal amount of applications from gigantic organizations increasingly tend to rely on cloud services. These demands caused a great number of applications in form of couple of virtual machines (VMs) requests to be executed on data centers’ servers. Some of applications are as big as not possible to be processed upon a single VM. Also, there exists severa...

Remove Multimedia Server Bottleneck by Network Attached Disk Array with Heterogeneous Dual Channels

Multimedia service is pervasive on the Internet now and continues to grow rapidly. Most multimedia service provider systems have adopted a typical system architecture in which the storage devices are attached privately to the server. When a client browses some multimedia data from the server, data should be fetched from the storage devices and then forwarded to the client by the server. Unfortu...

Sed: Scalable & Efficient De-duplication File System for Virtual Machine Images

Virtualization is becoming widely deployed in servers to efficiently provide many logically separate execution environments by reducing the demand for physical servers, so this approach reserves physical CPU resources. Nevertheless, it still consumes large amounts of storage because each virtual machine (VM) instance, needs its own multi-gigabyte disk image. Existing systems take efforts to red...

Prebaked µVMs: Scalable, Instant VM Startup for IaaS Clouds

IaaS clouds promise instantaneously available resources to elastic applications. In practice, however, virtual machine (VM) startup times are in the order of several minutes, or at best, several tens of seconds, negatively impacting the elasticity of applications like Web servers that need to scale out to handle dynamically increasing load. VM startup time is strongly influenced by booting the ...

LayerMover: Fast virtual machine migration over WAN with three-layer image structure

Live Virtual Machine (VM) migration across data centers is an important technology to facilitate cloud management and deepen the cooperation between cloud providers. Without the support of a shared storage system between data centers, migrating the storage data (i.e. virtual disk) of a VM becomes the bottleneck of live VM migration over WAN due to the contradiction between the low bandwidth of ...
